North Shore Challenge for Camp Trillium was established as an ongoing and annual fundraiser for Camp Trillium Rainbow Lake. The idea behind The North Shore Challenge for Camp Trillium was hatched by marathon swimmers Annaleise Carr and Josh Reid when they were training for Carr’s 2014 Lake Erie Crossing (she was previously the youngest person to swim across Lake Ontario following the traditional Marilyn Bell route.) With the first season of the Global Swim Series just around the corner, and successful races like the Toronto Island Lake Swim and the LOST Race in Lake Ontario, the time had come for Lake Erie to have her own jewel race. The North Shore Challenge continues to raise money for Camp Trillium Rainbow Lake, a Waterford, ON, summer camp for children and families affected by juvenile cancers. Since 2012, Carr’s “Annaleise’s Radical Crossings” group has raised nearly $500,000 for the camp.
In order to create a following for the North Shore Challenge, a website was the main hub of information. It’s a spot where swimmers can visit to learn about the upcoming swim, routes, ambassadors and register directly. This website is refreshed and updated on an annual basis to reflect each year’s information and theme.
